Lexmark introduced its new OfficeEdge Series of multifunction products (MFPs) at a function held yesterday at Melrose Arch in Johannesburg. The company’s inkjet MFPs, the OfficeEdge Pro4000 and OfficeEdge Pro5500, are suited to be employed as a workhorse for small workgroups within enterprise and small to medium-sized businesses (SMBs).

Both the Lexmark OfficeEdge Pro5500 and OfficeEdge Pro4000 colour MFPs are built for fast, professional, heavy-duty printing as well as scanning. According to the firm, the  new additions to its line-up boast faster print speeds than most similarly priced colour laser MFPs.

These two printers sport print speeds of up to 21 pages per minute (ppm) in black and 14 ppm in colour, and, according to Lexmark, the fastest time to first page compared to laser devices in its class. This means that users will spend less time waiting for a print job to complete.

Additionally, the Lexmark OfficeEdge Pro5500 boasts a single pass, duplex, automatic document feeder (ADF) with a capacity of up to 50 A4 sheets , in addition to its 300 sheet paper input tray. The ADF enables users to save time by simultaneously scanning both sides of documents, whilst accommodating a variety of paper sizes up to A4 paper format.

Another feature setting the Pro5500 apart is its 10.9 cm colour touchscreen, allowing for easy navigation of the unit’s functionality as well as Lexmark’s productivity-enhancing SmartSolutions.

SmartSolutions are downloadable software applications that are designed to help businesses by streamlining everyday tasks and common workflows. For instance, users can download a Google Docs (now Google Drive) app that enables them to print documents from the cloud-based productivity suite, without having to connect to a PC first.

The recommended retail price (including VAT) for the OfficeEdge Pro4000 is R2369 and R3800 for the OfficeEdge Pro5500.

Lexmark C740 Series unveiled

Besides the two new OfficeEdge printers, Lexmark also announced the C740 Series of colour laser printers. This series extends Lexmark’s mid-range line of colour workgroup devices and are targeted at workgroups of ten to 15 people, who require the latest productivity-enhancing software advancements and high-quality colour printing.

Lexmark’s C748 family boasts 4.3" colour touchscreens that the company says provides users with tablet-like navigation. Users access the printers’ functions via these touchscreens including several pre-loaded applications such as scan to email.

All models within the C740 Series boast a maximum paper input capacity of 4300 sheets, according to Lexmark the highest paper capacity in their class. Optional 550 sheet trays and 2000 sheet high capacity trays, further allows users to load multiple paper types and customise input options to meet specific printing needs.

“Lexmark’s innovative smart devices are a key vehicle in providing advanced features and unique bundles of end-to-end solutions to our customers,” stated Marty Canning, Lexmark executive vice president and president of imaging solutions and services.

“Our customers can depend on these high-caliber products for a wide range of needs – from printing vibrant, customer-facing collateral and signage to advanced scanning in order to streamline heavy, paper-based activities such as employee onboarding, invoice processing and other key business processes,” he concluded.

The recommended retail prices (excluding VAT) for the C740 Series starts at R 5449 for the C746n and goes all the way up to R 13 015 for the C748dte.
