MSI reveals specifications behind GT660 gaming notebook
By Tom Manners 10 June 2010 | Categories: newsThe recent release of a number of next generation technologies such as DirectX 11 GPU support, 3D stereoscopic gaming and Intel’s next generation Core i3, i5 and i7 appears to have reignited the drive towards developing a new range of advanced notebooks aimed at the gaming market.
The latest in this string is Taiwanese manufacturer MSI’s anticipated GT660, which was revealed, without a specification list, to the public several months ago.
MSI has now come forward to announce official details behind the notebook and needless to say, the specification list is more than impressive.
The GT660 will feature an as yet unnamed Intel Core i7 quad-core processor, three DDR3 slots which will allow for up to 12 GB of RAM on a 64-bit operating system, 500 GB hard-drive with an option for a second and a 16” HD display.
In terms of graphics the GT660 will pack a punch with Nvidia’s GT 285M GPU which features 1 GB of GDDR5 RAM. It will also include two USB 3.0 slots, which is relatively unheard of in laptops which are currently on the market, an HDMI output and a 9 cell battery which should address power problems which are commonly associated with gaming notebooks.
Unfortunately MSI neglected to include pricing options or a release date. Our guess is that it will probably retail at the same price point as Asus’ G51J gaming notebook, which is available for roughly R14 000 locally.
