MTN has thrown down the mobile broadband gauntlet by launching two uncapped internet packages that they will be offering as of 1 June 2010.
 
The new packages, MTN Broadband Uncapped Lite (R749) and MTN Broadband Uncapped Pro (R1 999), will be bundled with netbooks, notebooks, as well as MTN’s newly introduced F@stLink E2010 Football modem on a 24-month contract. Both packages are subject to a fair usage policy, with the former getting a limit of 3 GB and the latter a limit of 10 GB. Once the limit is reached, download speed is throttled to 128 kbps for the rest of the month.

“The fair use policies have been put in place to ensure the integrity of the network and that the consumer experience is seamless. Users will still be able to access the internet and download content, it will just take a bit longer,” says Karel Pienaar, MD of MTN SA.
 
Following their announcement of a faster (14.4 Mbps download and 5.76 Mbps upload) broadband network in all areas where there is 3G network coverage, MTN has also stated that they are busy rolling out an even faster broadband network boasting speeds of up to 21.1 Mbps.
