MWEB introduces speedy gaming service
By Johan Keyter 12 May 2011 | Categories: newsMWEB is once again proving its commitment to South African gamers, with the ISP yesterday unveiling its new WTFast software as part of its online gaming service.
The WTFast software will go one step further in ensuring that local gamers have access to gaming servers of truly international standards, working in conjunction with MWEB's partnership with Gameservers.com as well as Valve's Steam platform.
This is achieved by the WTFast software streamlining online game data to international servers such as Aion, Rift and Blizzard's Battle.net and World of Warcraft servers. Latency is improved by ensuring that the fastest and most reliable path is used when data is sent to the game server, greatly diminishing the effects of the bane of SA gamers, lag.
"MWEB has made a significant investment in the South African online gaming arena. We are already proving to be at the forefront of online gaming through our partnerships with Gameservers.com where we successfully launched the highly anticipated COD: Black Ops as well as a further 53 additional top gaming titles. We have also deployed Steam Servers in both our Cape Town and Johannesburg Data Centres," said Nathier Kasu, head of MWEB's digital division.
Faster response time is surely at the top of every online gamer's wishlist, whether you need to quickly interrupt a spell in WoW, score a triple kill in Call of Duty or deny that first scouting worker in a game of Starcraft II. Essentially the software will help reduce latency, disconnections and lag spikes, as well as improving overall online gaming performance.
"Simply put, when you usually play the game, your data is often going down slow side streets and alleyways. The WTFast software allows your data to be on a fast freeway with no speed limits right to the game servers," explained Kasu.
"For MWEB, our goal is to bring the very best in online gaming. Offering WTFast is another value added service offered to our customers where they will be able to experience the gaming world like their international counterparts," concluded Kasu.
