Mecer launches affordable ultrabook range

Mustek stated that its JW6 ultrabook range includes models with either an Intel Core i3 (JW6-i3-3217) or Intel Core i5 processors (JW6-i5-3317), whilst the UT 40II1 range is powered by Intel’s Core i5 CPUs. According to the company, these high performance ranges provides users with superior custom-built computing, on the go and at an affordable price, with pricing kicking off at only R6 000 (incl. VAT).
JW6 14" ultrabook and UT 40II1 ultrabook
Handling the processing on the JW6-i3-3217 ultrabook (344 x 243 x 21 mm; 1.9 kg) is Intel’s Core i3 3217u running at 1.8 GHz, whilst this unit also sports a 14" (1366 x 768) TFT display, 2 GB DDR3 RAM (upgradeable to 16 GB), a fast booting 32 GB mSATA SDD coupled with a 320 GB hard drive for storage.
This Windows 7 Home Basic operating ultrabook also features embedded Gigabit Ethernet, a built-in 4-in-1 card reader, 802.11 n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0, as well as two USB 2.0 ports, one USB 3.0 slot and an HDMI out. The recommended retail price of this ultrabook is a mere R6 000 (incl. VAT), with the operating system, hard drive and RAM all being upgradable on all models within Mecer’s ultrabook range.
Mecer’s UT40II1 ultrabook (the same size as the JW6 344 x 243 x 21 mm, but weighs less - 1.76 kg) is powered by a Core i5-3317U CPU running at 1.7 GHz, whilst Windows 7 Home Basic (upgradeable to Windows 7 Professional) handles the operating.
This model also features a 14" (1366 x 768) TFT display, 4 GB DDR3 -1333 memory (upgradable to 16 GB), a 32 GB mSATA SSD (users can also opt for a 64 GB version), embedded Gigabit Ethernet, and a built-in 1.3 megapixel camera.
In addition, this ultrabook also sports built-in speakers and microphone, as well as a DVDRW super multi drive, 6-in-1 card reader, two USB 3.0 ports and an HDMI slot. It goes for a recommended retail price of R8 000 (incl. VAT).
