MiFi - Make your own hotspot
By Hanleigh Daniels 12 October 2009 | Categories: newsIf you’ve ever felt the impulse to bring the high speed connectivity of WiFi hotspots at restaurants or airport lounges to your home, office or anywhere else you may roam, then Altech Autopage Cellular’s MiFi might do the trick.
The petite device allows you to create a 10 m ‘bubble’ or area, in which up to five users can have access to high-speed internet connection wherever a cellular connection is available. This means five laptops can connect simultaneously, so that you are able to download files, check emails and connect to the internet without compromising on speed or connectivity and all data and information is secure due to its password protection application, effectively creating a virtual office where it’s needed.
The MiFi also has an SD card slot that can accept microSDHC storage cards of up to 16 GB, which allows for the file sharing across a wireless network.
The gadget is GPS-enabled and can also accommodate mobile gaming units (such as a PSP), digital music players and cameras. It is also PC and Mac compatible and the battery lasts for about four hours on a single charge.
It retails at a recommended R2000 and is available from Altech Autopage Cellular outlets.
