Update: South Africans can expect to pay R999 for the single install version of Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and an estimated retail price (ERP) of R1 299 for the Family Pack with three installs for families with more than one Mac in their household. Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 will retail at an ERP of R2 499 for the single install, with the Multi-Pack going for R2 699, which includes two installs for a user with two machines.
 
Microsoft has announced that Office for Mac 2011 will be available in over 100 countries around the globe by the end of October. Redmond’s productivity suite will be available in two editions, Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 and Office for Mac Home and Business 2011.
 
“We develop Office for Mac to give you the tools to create great-looking and compatible documents — with options to pick the right edition for your Mac needs,” said Eric Wilfrid, general manager, Macintosh Business Unit (MacBU) at Microsoft Corp. “More than ever before, Office 2011 brings the familiar productivity tools and features of Microsoft Office to a suite of applications that work great on the Mac.”
 
Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student 2011 includes Word for Mac, PowerPoint for Mac, Excel for Mac and Messenger for Mac. Pricing starts at about $119 (about R870) for the single install version and $149 (just under R1 100) for a Family Pack offering up to three installs in a single household.
 
Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Business 2011 adds Outlook for Mac and it will retail for an estimated starting price of $199 (approx. R1 450) for a single install version and $279 (just over R2 000) for the Multi-Pack allowing for two installs.
 
Mac users who purchase Office 2008 for Mac between 1 August 2010 and 30 November 2010 from Microsoft or an authorised reseller will also qualify for a free upgrade to the new Office. They can register online and have to submit a form with their product key and dated sales receipt before 31 December 2010.
