MotorStorm Apocalypse delayed in the UK but not SA
By Hanleigh Daniels 16 March 2011 | Categories: newsSony has delayed the latest title in the MotorStorm series, MotorStorm: Apocalypse, due to the similarities between the game’s setting and the tragic earthquake that struck Japan recently.
Within MotorStorm: Apocalypse a devastating earthquake is about to destroy a coastal city. A two day racing festival is then held within the confines of this doomed city, with gamers having to dodge amongst others, falling skyscrapers and some of the city’s inhabitants who refuse to be evacuated.
According to Yahoo! News, the game’s UK launch (scheduled for this Friday) has been delayed with a new release date now to be announced later. The game has also been delayed in Sony’s home country of Japan and will not be released in New Zealand where an earthquake caused many deaths and much devastation last month.
Local distributor Ster Kinekor has however confirmed that the local launch of the game will go ahead as scheduled for the 18th of March, which is this coming Friday.
“We are shocked and saddened to see the impact of the earthquake and tsunami in Japan and our thoughts are with all those affected, including our colleagues within the Sony family, living and working throughout Japan,” a press statement by Sony Computer Entertainment Europe read.
“We are very conscious of the parallels between these events and the underlying theme in Motorstorm and are doing everything we can to be as sensitive as possible to the situation. Although the game itself is already in distribution, we are ceasing any further shipments and removing as much of the marketing materials as possible.”
