Vodacom has announced the appointment of Sipho Maseko (BA, LLB) as managing director of Vodacom South Africa, with effect from September 2011. He will replace Shameel Joosub, who is now CEO of Vodafone’s operation in Spain.

Maseko joins the Group from BP Southern Africa where he has been the chief executive officer since 2008. Prior to that Maseko held a number of senior executive positions for the past 14 years at BP.

“Sipho has impressed us with his business acumen, leadership approach and track record in a multinational environment. We believe he will make a refreshing contribution to our business and we look forward to welcoming him on board,” said Vodacom Group CEO Pieter Uys.

Maseko said, “I’m looking forward to this new chapter in my career and thank my colleagues at BP for a fulfilling tenure there.”

Maseko will also be a member of the Vodacom Group Board.
