MultiChoice today announced the launch of three new channels to its various DStv bouquets. The new channels are KidsCo, AfroMusic and Mzansi Magic.

According to the GM for Content at MultiChoice, Alleta Alberts, “This is another exciting development in MultiChoice service offering. The three new channels will appeal to a wide range of audiences and increases the choice of programme viewing for our subscribers, especially in terms of the local content offering through Mzanzi Magic.”

“This channel presents an exciting new platform for the South African creative industry, and a new destination for viewers who are interested in proudly South African entertainment.”

KidsCo is a new international television channel for children and can be viewed by the DSTV Lite, Select 1, Selet2, Compact and Premium subscribers on channel 308. “It is the place to see a wealth of top animation, live action shows and movies”, says Alletta.

AfroMusic - a 24/7 cable TV channel that broadcasts African music, documentaries, concerts and other music-related content with an African flavor - can be viewed on channel 326. It is available to the DSTV Select 1, DSTV Compact and Premium subscribers and features content related to African culture from across the continent, including South Africa.

Mzansi Magic, a local initiative by MNet, will be aired on channel 107. DStv Select 1, Compact and Premium subscribers will be able to view a diverse content mix, including local and international feature films, music specials, documentaries and soapies. These include interactive talk shows hosted by new and established television and radio personalities.

The channel will also introduce to television the uniquely South African low budget film genre nicknamed “bubblegum cinema”.

“The channel will support the local film industry by procuring and commissioning locally made productions that are tailored to the South African audience,” says Alberts.

“The launch of these new channels is part of an ongoing effort by MultiChoice to provide customers with the best value and a greater entertainment experience,” Alberts concluded.

The new channels are set to go live on Monday, 12 July 2010.
