News: New gaming expo coming to Cape Town

Johannesburg has its popular gaming expo in the form of rAge, and soon, the Mother City will be hosting its own, new interactive entertainment expo as well.

According to Pixelated Consulting Studios, which owns and is powering the expo, in recent years, Cape Town has been starved of an electronic entertainment or gaming expo of its own, and thus the Pixelated Gaming Experience (PGX) is intended to remedy this shortfall.

The organisers elaborated that the three-day event, which is taking place from the 7^th to the 9^th of December at the Cape Town International Convention Centre, is more than just an exhibition or convention; but rather is intended to “bring together both gamers (and non-gamers) regardless of age, race, and gender.”

Broad appeal

To this end the event is also casting a wide audience net, as it aims to appeal to everyone from casual and hardcore gamers to computer enthusiasts, and technology conscious families.On offer will be the PGX LAN with 200 seats available, and the expo will also showcase a vast array of technology and gaming related pursuits.

These will include:

PC and console gaming
computer hardware and software
gaming peripherals
digital lifestyle gear
gaming and hardware retail showings
gaming apparel and accessories
local game development studios
media and creative arts colleges
convention artists and graphic art signings
comics, anime, role-playing and collectible card games

Additionally, the expo will have a dedicated Kids Corner, with the latest kids educational games, such as the Leapster, as well as offerings from Disney Interactive.

Tickets will cost R180 for the LAN, R60 for a single day and R100 for a weekend ticket per person. Entry for children under six, however, will be free. The expo will run from 10am to 8pm on Friday and Saturday, and from 10am to 4pm on Sunday.

To the point

While rAge has been growing from strength to strength, it not difficult to see how it may left those living too far from Johannesburg wanting. Given that the Wii U is launching a mere week before the expo, the news for Capetonian game enthusiasts seems fortuitous indeed.

The new expo also hints that as hobbies and pursuits, both gaming in particular, and technology in general, are alive, well and garnering their fair share of interest country-wide.

It will certainly be very interesting to see what developments arise from PGX, how it differs from Johannesburg’s main gaming expo, and what it may portend for the local gaming industry as a whole.
