Known as Metrofibre Networx, it will focus on offering high speed fibre connectivity to the business sector. Initially this will only be available in the Centurion and Pretoria area but will eventually be expanded to encompass Midrand, Rosebank and Sandton.

Instead of focusing on major corporations Metrofibre Networx will reportedly target smaller businesses. No plans to supply fibre services to the home have yet been finalized.

According to Tech Central the company is backed former Absa CEO Steve Booysen and Dark Fibre Africa co-founder Malcolm Kirby and is in the final stages of fundraising.

The company’s website reports that it will make three separate Metro Ethernet product offerings available to businesses within its target area, namely:

E-LAN - Ethernet LAN Service
E-LINE - Ethernet Virtual Private Line (EVPL)
E-LINE - Ethernet Private Line (EPL)

This will come as welcome news to businesses which are unhappy with the service offering currently provided by South Africa’s other telecoms operators.
