News: Nintendo 3DS detail reveal set for January

In September Nintendo announced that its upcoming glasses-free 3D handheld gaming device, the Nintendo 3DS, was due for a February 26 release in Japan, while the handheld should be reaching western shores by March. The good news for Nintendo fans is that Nintendo is now planning a huge unveiling of the handheld's capabilities, slated for January 19.

According to Gamespot, many questions about the portable, including cost, capabilities, games and much more will be answered on the 19th of January when Nintendo will be holding a press event in New York City dedicated to the 3D handheld.

The event will be running throughout the day and will feature a presentation by Nintendo of America's president and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime. The presentation will also allow press in attendance to get more hands-on time with the device.

A strong line-up for the device has already been announced by Nintendo, including both first and third party titles that are sure to have gamers’ hearts aflutter. First party titles include Kid Icarus: Uprising, Star Fox 64 3D, Mario Kart and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time.

Strong third party titles in the form of Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater 3D, Final Fantasy, Dragon Quest, Resident Evil Revelations, Dragon Ball and many more are also slated to be released on the 3DS, hopefully at the console's launch.

Many big players in the game industry such as Electronic Arts, Take-Two, Disney Interactive Studios and Harmonix are also expected to reveal new titles closer to the launch of the device.

At this stage Nintendo's 3DS is looking like one of the most promising handhelds we've seen yet, and with such a ridiculously strong line-up of titles, we expect to see 3DS's flying of the shelves by the millions when the device launches in Europe and the US (and hopefully South Africa) in March of 2011.
