Nintendo has announced that its internal sales figures show that the Wii now has surpassed the 30 million units sold mark in the US.

The Japanese company achieved this milestone just 45 months after the console was launched in November 2006 in the States.

“More than any other video game system in history, Wii has expanded the world of video games to new audiences,” said Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo of America’s executive vice president of Sales & Marketing. “This milestone is another reminder that people want fun games they can play with others – all at a value-minded price.”

Nintendo also announced the release dates for a few of its upcoming titles. Some of these include Samurai Warriors 3 which will be available on 27 September, GoldenEye 007 from Activision as well as Just Dance 2 from Ubisoft that is coming this fall (spring in South Africa).
