Nokia announced today that certain Nokia-branded chargers pose a risk to consumers. The company is undertaking what it describes as an “exchange program” to replace affected chargers for free.

According to Nokia the chargers are being recalled because they have, “identified a potential product quality issue with certain chargers manufactured by one of its third-party suppliers. The plastic covers of the affected chargers could come loose and separate, exposing the charger’s internal components and potentially posing an electrical shock hazard if certain internal components are touched while the charger is plugged into a live socket. Nokia is not aware of any incidents or injuries related to these chargers.”

The affected charger can be identified by:

  1. Their model number: Models AC-3E and AC-3U manufactured between June 15 and August 9, 2009 and AC-4U chargers manufactured between April 13 and October 25, 2009.

  2. Their manufacturer: BDY.

This information can be found on the charger label.

Consumers can browse to Nokia’s charger exchange program page to find out more on how to identify affected chargers and where to get them replaced.
