Finnish phone maker Nokia unveiled the Nokia 600, 700 and 701 in August, showing off the first three devices to operate on its forthcoming Symbian Belle mobile operating system (OS). Now, after announcing the Lumia 800 and 701, its first couple of Windows Phone Mango-operating smartphones, the company has decided not to release the Nokia 600.

Espoo stated the following on the official Nokia Facebook channel: “The thing is, after careful consideration, we have decided not to ship the Nokia 600.” Nokia added that, “We continuously refine our portfolio to bring you the best possible mobile phones.”

Nokia’s 600 would have been the “the loudest smartphone” that the company has ever produced, boasting a loud speaker rated at a window-rattling 106 phon. It would have been powered by a 1 GHz processor (make not specified), sporting a 3.2" (360 x 640 pixels) capacitive TFT touchscreen and measuring in at 111 x 53 x 13 mm with a weight of 100 g.

Nokia Maps coming to all Windows Phone OS running smartphones

Besides not bringing the Nokia 600 to market, the other tech tidbit making the rounds is that the company will be bringing Nokia Maps to Windows Phone powered devices from other manufacturers, the likes of HTC, Samsung and LG.

According to ZDNet, Nokia Maps should show up in the Windows Phone Marketplace within the next couple of weeks as a free software application. The publication stated that this version of Nokia Maps will not support offline maps or voice guided navigation, as these will remain exclusive to Nokia’s Windows, MeeGo and Symbian running mobile devices.

In related news, ST-Ericsson also recently revealed that Nokia has chosen it as a chip provider for the company's future Windows Phone Mango-running smartphones.
