Nokia supports Afrikaans music awards
By Thomas McKinnon 28 September 2009 | Categories: newsNokia is doing the whole local is lekker thing by sponsoring this year’s Vonk Afrikaanse Musiektoekennings.
The event, to be held on 26 October 2009, celebrates Afrikaans music with artists such as Karen Zoid and Kurt Darren in attendance.
“We are excited to be involved in such a prestigious event and to be supporting local Afrikaans music,” says Jake Larsen, Nokia’s Head of Music for Middle East and Africa.
Nokia is hoping to showcase its Comes with Music offering, which allows for unlimited downloads of music from Nokia’s Music Store for a year. The Finnish mobile manufacturer will hold live demos of their offering at the show and sponsor a number of prizes including Comes with Music devices.
“There is a wealth of talent in South Africa and we are committed to supporting local acts by developing services such as Comes with Music to broaden exposure for these artists’ music and supporting local music awards such as the Rapport Vonk Musiektoekenings [sic],” says Larsen.
