After his first day on the job as Nokia’s head of Mobile Solutions, Anssi Vanjoki shared his thoughts on Symbian and MeeGo as well as goal of getting the Finnish manufacturer back on top with regards to high-end mobile devices.

 

Vanjoki confirmed that the N8 will be the first Nokia and the only N-series device to utilise Symbian^3 as its operating system (OS), but also countered reports stating that the N-series will be the excusive domain of MeeGo post-N8. 

 

“Symbian and MeeGo are the best software for our smartest devices. As such, we

have no plans to use any other software. Despite rumors to the contrary, there are no plans to introduce an Android device from Nokia. There has also been some confusion about Symbian and Nseries. The Nokia N8 will be our only Nseries device on Symbian^3. Of course, we ‘never comment on future products’, but a Symbian^4 Nseries device is a strong possibility. A very strong possibility,” Vanjoki wrote on the official Nokia Conversations blog.

 

Another bombshell that the new Mobile Solutions head dropped about the company’s OS plans is that it wants to take on Apple’s iOS4 and Android with Symbian and not MeeGo. “MeeGo offers us an opportunity to take mobile technology beyond the smartphone, and into a new world of connected devices. As Symbian gears up to compete with the likes of iPhone and Android, MeeGo is taking clear aim at the computing space.”
