Nvidia have announced a launch date for their new GeForce GTX 480 and GTX 470 GPU’s, which are the graphics card maker’s first Fermi-based cards. On 26 March the world will get a glimpse into what direction Nvidia are heading and whether their new route will see them beating the current top dog in the graphics card world, the ATI Radeon HD 5970.

Nvidia calls their new Fermi platform, “[the] most advanced GPU computing architecture ever built,” with Fermi featuring 512 CUDA cores, Nvidia Parallel DataCache technology and an Nvidia GigaThread engine, allowing for some extreme processing efficiency.

The launch date for the new cards coincides with the start of the annual PAX East 2010 gamer show, which runs from 26 March to 28 March 2010 in Boston.
