Opera Software today announced that its Opera Mini mobile browser is now available to users of the Samsung Galaxy S.

The company stated that its Opera Mini mobile browser for this Android-powered smartphone will first be preloaded in select markets during the initial phase, but can be downloaded from its website by Galaxy S users.

Like all other Opera Mini phones, Samsung Galaxy S users will now gain faster page loading and improved speed, thanks to the company’s ability to compress data by up to 90% before sending content to the phone. This compression also reduces data load, meaning lower data charges for this smartphone’s users.

“We are very glad to provide the best mobile Internet experience to Samsung’s Galaxy S users and Opera fans in selected markets,” said Lars Boilesen, CEO, Opera Software. “We also hope that global fans can get the chance in the near future.”

The Opera Mini browser is used by 76.3 million people monthly around the globe, on over 3000 different handsets.

Samsung’s Galaxy S last month became the first smartphone to be added to the Wi-Fi Alliance’s list of Wi-Fi Direct certified devices. Wi-Fi Direct devices have the ability (with the latest firmware) to connect directly to one another in a new kind of Wi-Fi network. This new specification will enable Wi-Fi devices to connect to one another without having to join a traditional home or office network or even a Wi-Fi hotspot.
