Opera Software releases Opera Mini 7 for mobile phones
By Hanleigh Daniels 31 May 2012 | Categories: newsAfter launching Opera Mini 7 for Android smartphones earlier this year, Opera Software now makes the latest version of its popular mobile browser available to almost any mobile phone with a internet connection.
Opera Mini 7 boasts smart page functionality, which provides users with a one page summary of all the news from their Facebook and Twitter feeds. Opera Software stated that smart page isn’t limited to social networking feeds, since it includes suggestions for news sites to follow, and enables users to add news feeds for websites that they visit frequently.
The smart page employs the data (and associated cost) saving technology of Opera Software, which sees webpages being compressed by up to 90%. Due to this, Opera Software said that its smart page will keep users updated around the happenings on their social networking services, without adding too much data cost to their monthly bill.
Users can download Opera Mini 7 with smart page from m.opera.com.
“I’ve spent hours typing web addresses on my mobile phone, but now there’s a super smart way to get most of your content at a glance,” explained Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software.
“With smart page, you just open the browser, and the content is right beside your speed dial shortcuts in the start screen for you to skim through — super practical, super time-saving and super smart. I guess that’s why the product team called it smart page,” Boilesen concluded.
In related news, the latest (April 2012) monthly mobile and tablet browser market share figures from Net Applications shows that Apple’s Safari mobile browser is still king of the mobile browsing jungle, gobbling up the biggest slice (63.84%) of the global mobile browser usage pie.
