Local mobile social platform MXit has announced a partnership agreement with Opera Software. The two companies will work together to bring an enhanced mobile experience to consumers in South Africa, Kenya as well as Nigeria.

Opera users in these countries will now have one-click access to MXit services, whilst  MXit users will be introduced to the Opera Mini browser through the popular chat client. Opera Mini will appear under the MXit apps menu and MXit will be accessible from the Opera Mini browser’s start page.

According to Mxit’s CEO Alan Knott Craig: “Mxit empowers African people by helping them build community and make money via their mobile phones. We believe the alliance with Opera will bring us a step closer to fulfilling that vision.”

“Mxit and Opera Mini are hugely popular in South Africa, and this partnership will provide consumers with easy access to South Africa’s favourite web services,” added Lars Boilesen, CEO of Opera Software.

 

In related news, a new study released by World Wide Worx and Fuseware has shown that South Africans have embraced social media as a core pillar of internet activity, with MXit and Facebook leading the way in terms of user numbers.
