The King of Pop Michael Jackson might have had his final curtain call last year, but will find new virtual lease on life within a newly announced online PC title.

SEE Virtual Worlds will produce ‘Planet Michael’, a Michael Jackson themed massively multiplayer online role playing game (MMORPG) for which the Michael Jackson Estate has provided its official stamp of approval. The moon-walking superstar’s free to play virtual world will launch at the end of next year as an ongoing game as well as a social network.

According to Variety Magazine, users will create their own avatar within Planet Michael and use their virtual representations to explore different locations, which are inspired by Jackson’s music, fashion, dance moves, lifestyle as well as his philanthropic causes.

These locations will be styled around certain songs like ‘Scream’ for example, which feature a futuristic setting and will allow users to moonwalk within that area.

Users will not be required to pay a monthly fee and membership to the game will also be free of charge. SEE Virtual Worlds is going to attain revenue from the sale of virtual goods, which will enable users to personalise their avatars.

These items (including abilities like dance moves, food for your avatar and glitter to apply to a glove) will also degrade over time, meaning that they will need to be upgraded. Members will also be able to contribute to charities that Jackson supported while he was alive.

Ubisoft also announced its interactive Michael Jackson title earlier this year that will be released later this year for the Xbox 360, PS3, PSP, Nintendo Wii and DS systems. It will also boast support the Xbox 360’s Kinect motion-based add-on, as well as the PS3’s PlayStation Move motion-based controller.
