BlackBerry holding company Research in Motion (RIM), revealed yesterday via its Twitter page that it has surpassed the 15 000 mark for available apps within BlackBerry App World.

This comes just three months after the Canadian company announced that it had crossed the 10 000 mark for apps available to BlackBerry smartphone users on BlackBerry App World.

Although the fact that over 15 000 apps can be downloaded from BlackBerry App World is significant for RIM, this figure is still some ways off the pace of the Android Marketplace, which passed the 100 000 mark a month ago, as well as Apple’s App Store with app figures north of 280 000.

The company unveiled its updated Facebook for BlackBerry app (v 1.9) last month, with this latest version enabling users to add Facebook Places amongst other new functionality.
