Samsung Galaxy S II hits three million worldwide sales
By Hanleigh Daniels 4 July 2011 | Categories: newsSamsung has announced that its Android Gingerbread 2.3 running Galaxy S II (model: GT-I9100) reached the global channel sales mark of over three million units in only 55 days of availability.
This sale figure marks a huge (three-fold) increase over the one million smartphones sold in 45 days, which the company managed to achieve with its previous generation Galaxy S mobile devices. Global sales figures of the Galaxy S surpassed the significant ten million mark in less than seven months after its launch in June 2010.
The Korean tech giant’s new flagship mobile, the Galaxy S II, is the skinniest smartphone available, measuring a mere 8.49 mm thick. It is powered by a dual-core 1.2 GHz ARM Cortex-A9 processor, boast a full scoop of 1 GB of RAM and sports a massive 4.27" Super AMOLED Plus (480 x 800) capacitive touch-screen.
What we said about the Galaxy S II in our review: “It is one of the best smartphones currently available thanks to not only a wafer-thin design, but also a 4.27” touch-screen that can easily be mistaken for a serving platter, all supported by one of the fastest dual-core processors in circulation.”
“Announced at Mobile World Congress 2011, the GALAXY S II represents our most advanced smartphone to date and demonstrates Samsung’s commitment to deliver premium, market-defining devices,” said JK Shin, president and head of Samsung’s Mobile Communications Business.
“This milestone reflects the continued strong support from our carrier partners around the world who have chosen the GALAXY S II as their flagship Android device.”
