Samsung Galaxy S hits ten million and counting
By Hanleigh Daniels 3 January 2011 | Categories: newsSamsung has revealed that its flagship smartphone, the Android-powered Galaxy S has surpassed the ten million global sales milestone. This achievement comes less than seven months after the phone was launched in June 2010 and less then three months after the company crossed the five million sales mark for this device.
According to the South Korean company, this amounts to 40 000 or more Galaxy S phones sold per day or about one sold every two seconds since launch. Most of the ten million sales emanates from the US where four million of these smartphones have been sold, with Europe taking second place with 2.5 million Galaxy S devices sold.
The Galaxy S has now joined a list of only seven other Samsung phones that passed this milestone and is also the second fastest to reach it, just losing out to the affordable Samsung Star (S5230) that took six months to cross the ten million threshold.
“The Galaxy S is the result of our 22 year heritage in the mobile industry,” stated JK Shin, president and head of Mobile Communications Business at Samsung Electronics.
“It is the realization of our concept of ‘the Smart Life’ - we wanted to makes users’ lives more convenient, more exciting, and more integrated. Today’s milestone shows that we have succeeded: 10 million Galaxy S users around the world are living the Smart Life.”
