Android users will have to wait a little longer for the launch of Samsung’s latest smartphone, the Nexus, as well as a good look at the next iteration of the mobile Android OS, Ice Cream Sandwich. Both companies confirmed that they would be delaying the launch out of respect for the recent passing of Steve Jobs.  

The phone, which runs the new version of Android, was slated to be launched at Samsung’s Something Big is Coming event at the International CTIA Wireless conference and expo, happening from the 11^th to the 13^th of October in San Diego.

According to the Daily Mail, Samsung chief executive officer Choi Gee-sung explained that the decision to delay the launch was due to Jobs’ passing. He elaborated that under the current circumstances, both parties have agreed that “this is not the appropriate time for the announcement of a new product.”

“We would ask for the understanding of our clients and media for any inconvenience caused. We will announce a new date and venue in due course,” he added.

According to CNET, the new Galaxy Nexus phone is believed to sport a 4.65” display, and be equipped with  a 1.2 GHz processor, 1 GB of RAM, and 32 GB of internal storage, along with a five megapixel camera. Additionally, the new phone is expected to be the first device running Google’s new Android Ice Cream Sandwich OS, which has yet to be unveiled.  

Despite the ongoing legal battle between Samsung and Apple over alleged patent infringement, Choi Gee-sung had nothing but praise for Jobs. “Steve Jobs introduced numerous revolutionary changes to the information technology industry and was a great entrepreneur. His innovative spirit and remarkable accomplishments will forever be remembered by people around the world,” he commented.

Nonetheless, the Daily Mail also reported that the death of Steve Jobs would have no effect on the ongoing dispute between Apple and Samsung. The site quoted a Samsung spokesman as commenting that Jobs' death and the legal disputes were two separate matters, adding that the company would continue to “file injunctions blocking sales of Apple products in more countries as planned.”

In recent news, Samsung were reportedly filing court injunctions in France as well as Italy, by which the company is aiming to ban the sale of Apple's newly announced iPhone 4S in those two countries, after Apple rejected an offer from Samsung that would have settled their patent dispute in Australia.
