After crossing the ten million sales mark with its Galaxy S3 smartphone during July, Korean tech giant Samsung crosses the 20 million global sales mark in the shortest period of time in its history.

Samsung managed to sell over 20 million Galaxy S3’s after just 100 days, which is around three times quicker compared to its predecessor, which took nine months to reach the same milestone. It is also about six times faster than it took (17 months) the firm to reach this sales milestone with the original Galaxy S smartphone.

According to Samsung, this equates to a sales rate of 200 000 units per day for the S3. In terms of regional sales six million of the 20 million devices were sold in Europe, with 4.5 million mobile devices sold within Asia. A further four million smartphones were sold Stateside and 2.5 million in the company’s backyard of Korea.

Samsung surpassed the ten million milestone two months after the smartphone’s release, whilst it took the company five months to pass that mark with its Galaxy SII.

In related news, Samsung recently unveiled its Galaxy Note 2 smartphone-tablet-hybrid and announced the local availability of its Galaxy Beam I8530 projector smartphone. For smartphone buyers interested in alternative platforms to Android, Samsung also announced its first Windows Phone 8 running smartphone in the ATIV S.
