Sony today confirmed the existence of a white PlayStation 3 Slim model which it will be releasing in Japan.

In late July the company will give Japanese consumers the opportunity to purchase a white PlayStation 3 Slim with a 160 GB hard drive for roughly R2500. In addition to this it will also be introducing a 320 GB standard Charcoal Black edition to the market for an estimated R3 000.

The company has yet to confirm however whether these new versions will be released anywhere else. Despite this, we have our fingers crossed that the white version might find its way to South African stores because it is strikingly attractive.

It is interesting to note that Sony appears to be following the same product cycle path as the PlayStation 2 with regards to releasing a Slim model, followed by additional colour options.

This may be part of a bid to set the console apart from the Xbox 360 after Microsoft recently announced that it would be introducing a completely remodelled version of the console to the market in coming months.
