Sony trademarks PS Vita
By Johan Keyter 6 June 2011 | Categories: newsSony's upcoming gaming handheld, codenamed the NGP, seems to have finally gotten a name, at least if recent trademark filings are to be believed.
This Friday Sony Computer Entertainment filed trademarks for the words “PS Vita” as well as “PlayStation Vita” through the EU Trademarks and Designs Registration Office. The move was intended to go by under the radar, but a hawk-eyed NeoGAF user noticed the filings this morning.
It was previously rumoured that the upcoming handheld would be named Vita, which is the Italian word for “life”. Now thanks to the filings it seems that the PlayStation Life will indeed be the device's preferred moniker.
The PlayStation Vita is expected to feature a 5” touch-enabled OLED display with some 256 MB of RAM and 128 MB of graphical memory. Sony claims it will deliver “visually striking graphics never seen before on a portable entertainment system.”
The company is expected to reveal the handheld's official name as well as updated specs tomorrow night during Sony's E3 press conference, so stay tuned.
