The annual Spike TV Video Game Awards took place on Saturday, showcasing a boatload of new trailers, Neil Patrick Harris, and of course video game awards.

While the show featured a couple of B-list actors making bad video game jokes, the gaming public's interest lay squarely with new blockbuster title announcements.

And boy, did the awards deliver. We already reported that Naughty Dog is gearing up for another adventure with Nathan Drake in Uncharted 3 and that Bethesda is sharpening their dragon slaying gear with The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, but the awards held even more bountiful releases.

Sci-fi role-playing gamers the world over can rejoice as the first teaser trailer for the insanely heavily anticipated Mass Effect 3 was shown at the awards. The trailer showcases Earth being devastated by unknown invaders and the game has a release date of summer (that's winter for us) 2011.

As if that wasn't enough, a new trailer for Rocksteady's sequel to the critically acclaimed Batman: Arkham Asylum was also featured at the show. The sequel will be called Arkham City and as the trailer revealed it seems that Batman has made a new enemy in the form of Dr. Hugo Strange. Don't forget, the Joker is still out there as well. No release dates have been revealed for this piece of gaming gold as of yet.

As far as actual awards went, Rockstar's Red Dead Redemption walked away as top dog securing Game of the Year, Best Original Score, Best Song in a Game and Best Downloadable Content.

Bioware (Mass Effect 2) secured the Studio of the Year awards, Mass Effect 2 the best Xbox 360 game, God of War III the best PlayStation 3 title and Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty won the award for best PC game of 2010.

The awards also provided a sneak peek at some in-game footage from the PlayStation 3 exclusive shooter, Resistance 3, releasing on the 6th of September 2011 as well as EA's new snowboarding title, SSX: Deadly Descents.

Some more big name sequels were spotted in the form of Prototype 2 and Forza Motorsport 4 and we got a spine tingling tease from Guillermo del Toro's inSane, as well as landing a new Portal 2 trailer.
