Activision Blizzard yesterday announced that their new hit real-time strategy (RTS) title, Starcraft II, has become the best-selling PC title of the year so far.

The sequel to the 1998 hit also claimed the title of the fastest-selling RTS game of all time, selling 1.5 million copies in the first 48 hours.

More than 8000 stores worldwide kept their doors open at midnight on the 27th of July for the game’s release, with more than a million copies worldwide sold on the first day alone.

"We launched StarCraft II in 11 different languages and on five different continents because we wanted to make sure as many players as possible were able to log on and play on day one," said Mike Morhaime, CEO and cofounder of Blizzard Entertainment.

GameStop, one of the largest game suppliers in the world also announced that Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty had become their fastest-selling PC game since World of Warcraft: Wrath of the Lich King was released in 2008.

One thing is clear, Activision Blizzard knows how to market their games. If you’d like some more info on Starcraft II look forward to our full game review arriving later today.
