Nokia together with its MeeGo operating system (OS) partner Intel, is still working hard to get the new high-end operating system ready for its smartphones (as well as vehicle entertainment systems, tablets, notebooks and netbooks). It appears that although this new OS will be powering the top-end devices from Nokia, it will not be taking over from the company’s highly favoured Symbian mobile OS when it comes to its range of business smartphones.     

 

During an interview with ZDNet, the Finnish phone maker’s business smartphone chief, Ilari Nurmi stated that the company has, “great converged device plans based on the MeeGo platform”, but said that there are “different types of needs and wants in the enterprise market”. The company plans to stick it out with Symbian^3 as its main business mobile platform even when MeeGo is released.

 

“It’s very important to note that Symbian is the primary platform today and will also be the primary platform in the future,” Nurmi stated. Nokia will be releasing its latest smartphone targeting enterprise users, the E7 before the end of the year. It looks like the N8 but sports a slide-out QWERTY keyboard, 4" AMOLED display, an 8 megapixel camera, Bluetooth 3.0, 16 GB internal memory, Wi-Fi, integrated GPS and will be powered by Symbian^3.

 

Nokia also recently revealed that its Ovi Store has reached the three million downloads per day milestone, along with more than 400 000 new developers joining Forum Nokia in the last 12 months.
