Oracle is forecasting legal woes for Google
 
Relational database management system (RDBMS) provider Oracle has taken Google to court over its Android operating system.
 
According to The Register, Oracle has filed a lawsuit at a federal court in Northern California claiming that the search company intentionally infringed upon its patents and copyrights that it holds for the Java platform.
 
“Without consent, authorization, approval, or license, Google knowingly, willingly, and unlawfully copied, prepared, published, and distributed Oracle America’s copyrighted work, portions thereof, or derivative works and continues to do so,” Oracle’s attorneys, wrote. 
 
“Google’s Android infringes Oracle America’s copyrights in Java and Google is not licensed to do so.”
 
Tweet Button is now official
 
After reports surfaced that the popular micro blogging site Twitter is working on its own Tweet Button, the company officially unveiled the feature on Thursday. Users can add this button to their website in order to allow people to share content on Twitter without having to leave the page.
 
Skype going public
 
Voice over IP (VoIP) chat service Skype is preparing a $100 million (about R728 million) initial public offering.
 
According to CNN, the company is going to offer American depositary shares and also stated that its headquarters will remain in Luxembourg.
 
This year the company notched up over $406 million in sales and a registered user base of 560 million, which is a year on year improvement of 41%. The number of paying Skype users has also increased by 23% (from 6.6 million to 8.1 million).
 
It has also come to light this week that Skype is involved in a legal battle with satellite broadcaster BSkyB over Skype’s use of the "Sky" part in its name. BSkyB has been vindicated by the EU's trademark registration office which has ruled in favour of BSkyB over Skype's logo. Skype will appeal the decision. 
 
Foursquare for Symbian
 
The social networking site Foursquare, which enables users to ‘check-in’ to places and meet up with friends, now has its own official Foursquare client for Symbian OS powered devices. It is available as an unsigned download, so you will need to sign up for it for your specific device. 
 
Sym4square (SymbianFoursquare) was developed by ThinkChange, utilising the official FourSquare APIs, and is available as a free download for the Symbian S60 5th Edition phones. Some of these includes the Nokia N97 mini, Nokia X6, Samsung GT i8910 Omnia, Sony Ericsson Vivaz pro.
 
BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6 available
 
BlackBerry holding company Research in Motion (RIM) has released the latest PC version of its Desktop Manager software, BlackBerry Desktop Manager 6, adding some new functions as well as support for the Torch 9800 and the BlackBerry Curve 9300 smartphone.
 
According to CrackBerry.com, some of these new features include an enhancement of BlackBerry Media Sync to import and synchronise your media files (music, pictures and videos) from one location, the option to synchronise your music by artist and genre and the ability to use the Wi-Fi music sync feature to download or remove songs from your PC’s music by using your smartphone when it is connected to your home’s Wi-Fi network.  
 
It can be downloaded (100.04 MB) from RIM’s site.
 
MeeGo 1.02 for netbooks update available
 
The second update for the MeeGo 1.0 Core Software Platform and Netbook User Experience project release, which is the version of MeeGo designed to run on netbooks, was released on Monday.
 
This update will amongst others resolve a number of email and media player issues and update syncevolution as well as the connection manager.
