According to Kotaku, new Lucasarts president, Paul Meegan, has axed the third title in the Force Unleashed series, which had apparently already been in production.

 

It was hoped that The Force Unleashed 2 would become Lucasarts' premium title of 2010 after a lot of hype was generated surrounding the game and the changes that was made to the sequel. Unfortunately, while it seems Lucasarts nailed graphics and fighting, the story and core of the game disappointed with an average score of only 66 on metacritic for the game thus far.

 

Meegan seems to be in the midst of a huge revamp at Lucasarts to get the famous studio back on its feet after a string of disappointing titles hit the market.

 

He apparently put another unnamed Lucasarts project on hold, while downsizing some of the staff involved in the development of the Force Unleashed games.

 

Sources close the studio say, “morale and productivity are at all-time lows” since Meegan took over, with many staff only finding out about The Force Unleashed 2's PSP version being cancelled by reading gaming news sites.

 

It has also been revealed that Meegan is aiming to cease external development of Lucasarts properties, with Bioware's upcoming MMO, The Old Republic, to be the last game not developed internally at Lucasarts.

 

If this decision goes through it also means an end to all the LEGO Star Wars games, previously developed by studio Traveller's Tales.

 

If these rumours are true it seems that a lot of changes are afoot at Lucasarts. Time will tell whether they end up being for better or for worse.
