Toshiba today announced two new additions to its Camileo SX series of camcorders in the Camileo SX500 and Camileo SX900.
 
According to the company both models are “aimed at demanding film makers and are optimised for capturing both far-off and close-ups shots in varying light conditions”.
 
Camileo SX500
 
The SX500 incorporates a 5x optical zoom and 12x digital zoom which allows it to more easily capture long distance imagery on its 10 Megapixel CMOS sensor. It captures videos with a resolution of up to Full HD quality (1920x1080i/60fps) / (1920x1080p/30fsp) and can also be used as a digital still camera that takes photos up to 4000 x 3000 pixels in 4:3 mode or 4480 x 2520 pixels in 16:9 mode.
 
In addition it also features an embedded electronic image stabiliser.
 
Camileo SX900
 
The Camileo SX900 features a 9x optical zoom and a light sensitivity of 3 Lux; as a result it is particularly well suited to environments with low light levels. The body of the device measures in at 33mm which, according to Toshiba, makes it one of the slimmest camcorders currently on the market.
 
Both of the Camileo SX models support up to date SD card technology with SDXC and support for up to 64GB. In addition each model incorporates a number of basic editing functions such as cut/join into the camera design to make recording on the fly easier.
 
The Camileo SX500 and Camileo SX900 synchronise with laptops and TV sets via HDMI (High Definition Multimedia Interface) or USB 2.0, and Composite Video (PAL, NTSC). Cables for USB, HDMI and analogue video are included in the package.
 
The Camileo SX500 and SX900 are available from Hi-Fi Corporation retail outlets at a recommended retail price of R2799 (Incl VAT) and R3599 (Incl VAT) respectively.
