Toshiba tablet PC here in September
By Tom Manners 19 August 2010 | Categories: newsRumours have begun to circulate that Toshiba is readying itself for the release of its own tablet PC, which will attempt to take on Apple’s wildly successful iPad, later this year.
According to Digitimes the device will be based on Google’s Android platform and will incorporate Nvidia's Tegra 2 processor, which delivers 1 GHz of processing power. In addition to this it will sport a 10” multi-touch display (larger than the iPad).
The specifications behind the Tegra 2 processor offer somewhat of an insight into what we can expect from Toshiba’s tablet PC. The CPU is optimised for 1080p video, a 3D interface, multi-touch and can facilitate an impressive battery life of up to 140 hours on a single charge.
Toshiba will reportedly launch the device in September or October and an initial run of 500 000 units globally is expected.
If this rings true, Toshiba will be the first out of the blocks after Apple to deliver a tablet PC. Although Dell's Streak may be regarded as a tablet device many consider it to be more of a smartphone hybrid.
