Two new US sales milestones for Nintendo
By Hanleigh Daniels 5 January 2011 | Categories: newsNintendo has announced that the end of 2010 produced two sales milestones for the company in the US.
The first is the Nintendo DS range of portable video game systems that has sold in excess of 47 million units since the original model launched in November 2004, making the DS America’s best-selling video game system of all time.
Secondly, the motion-based Wii gaming console has passed the seven million mark in consoles sold for the third consecutive calendar year - a feat that has never before been accomplished by any other home gaming console. That has driven the total number of Wii consoles sold in the US beyond 34 million.
“When we look back at 2010, we see consumers time and again turning to the value and enjoyment of our products,” said Nintendo of America president Reggie Fils-Aime. “When we look ahead to 2011, we see new portable technology and more great Wii games that need to be seen to be believed.”
Nintendo will be releasing its new and highly anticipated 3DS hand-held gaming system in the US in March, which will enable gamers to see content in 3D without the need for those ridiculous specs.
