Verbatim has launched two sleek-looking, portable external hard drives specifically for Apple Mac users, which are intended to provide creative freelancers such as graphic designers, photographers and architects with another way of storing and transferring large files when on the move.

The Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Mac Portable hard drive has a contemporary, minimalistic design in a black or white glossy finish and will be available in two versions. The first of these is a combination of FW800 and USB 3.0 SuperSpeed that is HFS+ formatted, while a second version offers USB 3.0 SuperSpeed interface and FAT32, making it suitable for PC users as well.

Both Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Mac Portable hard drive versions offer storage capacities of 500 GB and up to 1 TB. The company explained that USB 3.0 SuperSpeed delivers data transfer rates up to ten times faster than USB 2.0 (based on USB bus speeds). The first, solely Mac compatible version offers one FireWire 800 Port and one USB 3.0 Mini-B port. The second version, which is compatible with both Mac and PC, is similarly HFS+ formatted and fully compatible with Apple Time Machine backup software.

Included on both Verbatim Store ‘n’ Go Mac portable hard drives is the GREEN BUTTON software which reduces energy consumption and extends the drive’s life expectancy by automatically placing the Verbatim Store `n` Go into sleep mode after a programmed period of time, or when users manually click on the GREEN BUTTON on their desktop.

“This product has been designed especially for Mac users, and with its stylish look really fits in with the elegance of Mac computers, making it the perfect choice for those who prize both form and functionality,” commented Manny Cross, the Verbatim manager for Sub Sahara Africa. A RRP on the devices was not available as yet.

In related news, earlier this year, Verbatim Verbatim unveiled 50 GB rewritable Blu-rays.
