Vodacom has today announced a new offer which gives customers unlimited music downloads for an introductory offer of only R39 per month through its Vodacom Live! service.

Users will have unlimited access to full track music downloads on Vodafone live!, including music from both local and international artists. The company revealed that all major record labels are onboard, giving users access to a comprehensive library of music.

“With mobile technology gaining momentum, what better way of getting my music out there than through the leading network provider,” said DJ Kent, one of South Africa’s most popular House DJs.

“I think it’s great that Vodacom is investing in music content considering digital is the new consumption medium,” said Slikour, a local hip hop star.

This service is a global first stated the company, as no other mobile network offers an unlimited full track music service, allowing users to download music directly to their handsets and keep it forever. If customers aren't interested in the unlimited music offer, they will also have the option of purchasing individual tracks and real tones for only R7.50 per download, which is a saving of 50% over what was previously offered.

“We’re very proud to have partnered with all the major record labels in providing a compelling unlimited music offering,” said Mark Taylor, managing executive at Vodacom South Africa.

To be able to access the Unlimited Music service, Vodacom customers have to SMS MUSIC to 31116 to receive the link to the service.

Vodacom's service is in direct competition with Nokia's Ovi Music platform, which sees users paying R149 for a three month subscription and R499 for a 12 months subscription, giving them unlimited track downloads from Ovi Music.
