Weekly roundup- Motion gaming hopes dashed
By Hanleigh Daniels 5 February 2010 | Categories: newsNintendo will go high resolution
According to Engadget the motion-based game system known as Project Natal, set to launch this year for the Xbox 360, was already offered to Nintendo back in 2007. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata reportedly decided not to go with such a system because he felt it would be too expensive for the mass market. In related news, commenting on Nintendo’s next-gen Wii and DS consoles, Iwata was quoted in a Japanese newspaper saying, “[If you think] just making [the Wii] compatible with high resolution, will get players throughout the world to buy it… I would of course [pose this question to you]…Do you think it would sell with just that? Let’s put something new in it." He also posed the question, "The next DS will need to have high resolution graphics and include a motion sensor, wouldn’t you say?”
Final Fantasy XIII
Final Fantasy XIII will also be released on the Xbox 360 console and unlike the PlayStation 3's single Blu-ray disk, the Xbox 360 version will have you swapping up to three DVDs while playing it. FF XIII will be released on 9 March on both platforms for the markets outside of Japan, where it was launched on 17 December.
Halo not for Project Natal
One of the biggest titles for the Xbox 360 this year, Halo: Reach, will not make use of the Project Natal system. "Halo: Reach is NOT a Natal title and is being developed expressly with the traditional Xbox 360 controller in mind," Reach's developer Bungie posted on their blog.
