Microsoft today announced that it has released the Release Candidate (or advanced beta) versions of Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 Service Pack 1 to the public. 

As previously announced, the only new features added to the SP1 are the Windows Server 2008 R2-related virtualisation technologies, Dynamic Memory and RemoteFX. Windows 7 Service Pack 1 will allow users to gain access to these server based features, allowing for an richer VDI experience overall. 
 
Although this isn’t a significant update, it signals a movement forward for Microsoft’s saviour operating system. What is also impressive is how long the company has been able to hold out before updating the platform with its first Service Pack. 
 
The veritable disaster that was Windows Vista was quickly bolstered by a service pack once the company realised just how unusable the OS was. This did little to inspire users and the technology community alike towards the benefits of using Windows Vista. 
 
Fortunately, Windows 7 is plagued with relatively few issues (bugs are bound to crawl in here and there, whether you use Windows, OsX or Linux) and offers a sterling package for Microsoft fans.
