According to The Loop, Apple sent out media invitations yesterday for a special event to be held on 2 March in San Francisco, California.

This event, which is taking place at the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts at 10:00 in the morning, is expected to be the unveiling of Cupertino’s iPad successor.

Although many rumours have been circulating lately concerning possible specs (particularly around its display resolution), it is generally believed that the iPad 2 is expected to have faster hardware, be thinner than the current model and will boast a front-facing FaceTime camera (at least).

According to AppleInsider, the media invitation included an iOS calendar icon showing the date of the event, with the calendar also being peeled away to display an iPad screen in the background. This serves as confirmation that the event will be about the new iPad.
