iPhone 4 glass panels accused of cracking
By Tom Manners 8 October 2010 | Categories: newsAfter the phenomenon of Antennagate finally passed Apple by a month or two ago, we thought that the iPhone 4 was finally problem free. Little did we know that the manufacturer is reportedly having issues with the supposedly super hard, scratch resistant autoluminate glass panels which flank the device.
Reports that the iPhone 4 is having issues with third party covers which protect the back of the device are now surfacing. These suggest that particles which naturally get caught between these covers and the iPhone 4’s back panel can lead to scratching.
Worse still, accusations that this in turn weakens the glass and leads to the cracking and in some cases shattering of the panel, are also being levelled.
Although Apple has yet to make an official announcement regarding the matter, the company has been suspiciously quiet on the third party cases for the iPhone 4 front - leading us to believe that there may be truth to the allegations.
After a week’s worth usage with such a case we removed it from our own iPhone 4. So far we haven’t encountered any scratching issues.
