What this notebook lacks in size, it more than makes up for in performance, style and diversity. This little beauty weighs in at a mere 995g and its dimensions are just 249 (W) x 170 (D) x 29 (H) mm.
The One has an 8.9-inch CrystalBrite LED backlit display with a resolution of 1024x600 pixels – and we must say it’s quite impressive! We watched a video on it and even though the screen is smaller than we’re used to, the image was crystal clear. The sound isn’t very powerful, but there is a standard 3.5mm earphone jack in which you can plug earphones or speakers.
The Aspire One not only looks great, but performs too! The Aspire One is equipped with an Intel Atom processor, Linpus Linux Lite or Windows XP Home OS, and comes with 512MB or 1GB of RAM memory. The One that we tested had a 160GB hard drive. In addition to this the Aspire One has two SD card slots which can read five different types of memory card - Secure Digital, Multimedia Card, Memory Stick, Memory Stick PRO, xD-Picture Card and also has three USB ports.
The Aspire One is available in four colors - sapphire blue, seashell white, golden brown and coral pink - giving the Aspire One a quite distinctive look and feel that matches the style and personality of its owner and makes a nice change from the usual black.
The purpose of the Aspire One is to be not only stylish and ultra-portable, but also to deliver continuous access to the internet no matter where you are. The Aspire One comes standard with 802.11b/g WiFi built-in for easy access to available wireless networks and the new models now sport embedded 3G wireless technology for even greater online freedom.
This notebook is perfectly suited for students as it has all the features they need (plus loads more) and can be easily transported all over campus. You will be able to access the internet anywhere at any time to work on assignments etc.
PROS
The machine boots in as little as 15 seconds.
CONS
The Linux OS is very basic.
