The Canon Pixma MP520 is the 2007 upgrade of the MP510 and, in terms of quality, it shows. The photo print quality is right at the top of the list when you compare the MP520 to other printers in the price range.

It allows for scans up to A4, at a maximum resolution of 2400x4800 dpi. The print speed is very good, at about 30 pages per minute for black and white and 20 for colour.

The MP520 offers two input sources, the standard rear input, that holds up to 150 sheets of paper, and a front input that accepts A4, for everyday printing. It supports printing directly from memory cards and you can preview your prints on the colour LCD screen. There are other budget printers out there that offer more features, but more isn’t always better. Canon is known for excellent quality and the MP520 lives up to reputation by delivering superb quality prints. Get it for R1099 (incl VAT) from Computer Corporation on 08616-08616.

PROS
The print quality is good, dual paper trays is handy and print speed is decent.
CONS
The MP520's scan and copy speeds are sluggish in colour.
