Galaxy Zoo
By Andrew Gould 31 October 2008 | Categories: web time wastersIf you were a star gazing geek who dreamt that you’d some day fill the rather large shoes of Galileo, but are now feeling terrible for letting the old telescope gather dust, then Galaxy Zoo is the ideal excuse for bathing in the light of the moon once again… or rather in the light of your display.
Galaxy Zoo is an online astronomy project which creates opportunities for members of the general public to aid in the scientific analysis and classification of more than a million galaxies.
As the project is a collaboration between Oxford University, Portsmouth University, John Hopkins University and Yale University, you will be required to pass a test before you are able to contribute; they obviously couldn’t help themselves! The test is really easy though and you’ll be contributing to the scientific knowledge of the entire human race in no time. www.galaxyzoo.org/Default.aspx
