Organised by the South African Guild of Motoring Journalists, the list of 11 cars was originally whittled down from a larger group of 40, with 29 members of the Guild running through each of the 11 cars, debating their pros and cons.
The eleven cars have been tested over two days at the Gerotek test facility in Pretoria, with a number of tests designed to evaluate the cars based on everyday use. The Guild will be using the following criteria judge the cars: aesthetics, build quality, fuel economy, ergonomics, environmental friendliness, safety features and value for money. As such, it's usually a well priced hatchback or affordable family sedan that nabs the top prize. In recent years however. Porsche has come up trumps with the Porsche Boxster winning in 2013 and Cayman S in 2014.
For our money, the Mercedes-Benz C-Class is the best bet to win. But we'll see whether our prediction comes true on Wednesday evening, March 18th.
