Acer has unveiled the Acer Googlebook 14, marking its entry into a brand-new category of flagship notebooks powered by Google’s Gemini intelligence and running on the newly introduced Googlebook operating system.

Unveiled on Tuesday, this 14” device is designed to bridge the gap between traditional notebooks and mobile workflows, offering tight integration with Android smartphones alongside touch, keyboard, stylus and voice controls, according to Acer.

The machine represents the first time a convertible form factor has been introduced under the Googlebook ecosystem, joining forces with silicon from Intel and software optimisation from Google.

Googlebook OS is a desktop operating system designed specifically to succeed ChromeOS for consumer hardware. Built by Google as a direct fusion of Android software and traditional desktop computing, Googlebook OS brings the vast ecosystem of mobile applications from the Google Play Store onto high-performance portable computers.

AI integration and performance

Powered by up to an Intel Core Ultra 7 processor (Series 3) featuring an NPU capable of up to 50 TOPS, the Googlebook 14 is built to handle heavy multitasking and on-device machine learning workflows. It includes up to 32 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 512 GB of storage.

Acer notes Google’s Gemini Intelligence is deeply embedded across the software experience, introducing context-aware suggestions and proactive features.

However, for Android users in South Africa, the mobile-synced capabilities will be of big interest. This includes "Continue On," which lets users pick up tasks seamlessly where they left off on an Android phone, and "Cast My Apps," enabling access to phone apps directly on the notebook without installation.

Premium hardware and design

Weighing 1.14 kg and measuring 13.9 mm thin, the chassis is crafted from an aluminium-magnesium alloy in an "Elemental Blue" finish. Onboard is 360-degree hinge for the screen, which allows for four distinct usage modes: clamshell, tent, stand and tablet.

Visuals are handled by a 14-inch 3K OLED touch-enabled display with a 16:10 aspect ratio, protected by Corning Gorilla Glass and supporting USI 2.0 styluses.

Importantly, Acer believes the Googlebook 14 is capable of up to 16 hours with fast-charging support. When it comes to connectivity, users will find integration of Intel Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, a Thunderbolt 4 Type-C port and dual USB 3.2 Gen 2 Type-C ports.

Pricing and availability

The Acer Googlebook 14 comes bundled with 12 months of Google AI Pro – including access to advanced Gemini features and 5 TB of cloud storage.

At this stage, the South African release date for the Acer Googlebook 14 stands at 2027 only, with prices still unknown.

It is scheduled to launch in EMEA in October 2026, with prices starting at €1 199, with North American prices starting at $899
