There's some good news for fans of Bungie's MMO space shooter, Destiny, as Activision Blizzard has detailed a sequel for 2017, along with an expansion which it's readying for later this year. Destiny has received several updates since it released in September 2014, and two significant expansions that brought the MMO aspects of the game to life.

Activision, which co-created the game with Bungie, recently released a quarterly statement, highlighting what happened for the company during Q4 2015. It also elaborated on what plans Activision had in store for the year ahead. The exact date for Destiny's upcoming expansion has not been divulged, but Activision did delve into the numbers that the game has amassed until now. These revealed that more than 25 million people have played the game, with a cumulative 3 million hours worth of gameplay being logged to date.

As far as the sequel goes, Activision has stayed mum on details, particularly how it will connect with the original. At this stage all we know is that it has been tentatively slated for release in 2017, most likely in the latter half or even the final quarter.
